The goal of the facility is to support the work of the University of Chicago scientists by allowing non-invasive, high resolution imaging of animal models of disease and materials, and clinical research studies involving new applications of MRI.

The breast MRI (breMRI) research group is an interdisciplinary group of researchers and clinicians developing improved MRI methods for early detection of cancer, and for guiding therapy.

Computerized Analysis of Medical Images

The purpose of this study is to help doctors identify and understand abnormalities in medical images and to develop, investigate, and evaluate image processing and computer vision techniques for the analysis of medical images. The computerized analyses will allow for the detection, characterization, quantification, and enhanced visualization of disease and anatomical structures in patients. The potential impact of this research includes improved, more reproducible, and earlier detection and classification of abnormalities, with the expectation of a more favorable patient prognosis. The hypothesis of this study is twofold: first, that computerized systems may be developed to accurately detect, classify, and quantify disease in medical images; second that such computerized systems may be used by radiologists as an aid to potentially improve patient care.
