MRI Research Center

Schedule Scan Time

Step 1: The Research Application
The Principal Investigator (PI)/investigator should complete the MRIRC Scanner Time Application Form found here: Application Form

Step 2: Submit Application
The PI/investigator submits the application to our technical director for review.
This application should be submitted at least three weeks before the beginning of the study.

Step 3: Application Approval
After the application is approved, our technical director will review the "requirements for scheduling" checklist and then contact the PI/investigator. You can view the initiation checklist here: Initiation Checklist.

Step 4: MR Safety Training
All users (PIs, their staff, and associated team) who will access the Q-300 suite must take the Advanced MRI Safety Training class online. The PI and their team will be able to complete the online Advanced MRI Safety Training and request badge access if they have a CNET ID/login. Directions can be found here: MRIRC Directions Map.

Step 5: Meeting with MRIRC Staff before the First Scan
Before the first scan of each new MRI study, MRIRC will arrange a 15~30 minutes meeting with the PI and study team. In this meeting, the study team will have chance to present an overview of the study to all MRIRC staff (Co-directors, technical director, and the MR techs). If there are any paradigm and technical issues, they may be discussed in the meeting. Additional meetings will be arranged to solve the issues raised in the meeting if necessary. In this step, we can review the coordinator onboarding checklist found here: Coordinator Onboarding Checklist

Step 6: Scheduling Scan Time
Once all paradigm and technical issues are solved, the PI can start to schedule scans with our technologist. Our hours of operations are Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Users will register the scans by using The Booked online scheduler through the link here: MRIRC Schedule. Once you have found a day/time/scanner that is open, you can send a request to schedule to mrirc-scheduling@radiology.bsd.uchicago.edu. If there is a last-minute schedule change, you can call MRIRC suite at 773-702-4294. Details of the scheduling policy can be found here: MRIRC Scheduling Policy.

Step 7: Preparing for the First Day of MRI Scan
